Vase with Smocking Stitch Bottom
$125.00
Your eyes will tell you this piece is soft knitting but your touch will tell you it’s ceramic. And they both will be right, because clay doesn’t get knitted, and knitting isn’t usually hard. But here it is: a lovely knit, and gently shaped porcelain vase with a rolled rim with a smocking stitch bottom panel. How? It starts with a handknit cotton design which is dipped in liquid porcelain, shaped as it dries and fired to temperature. The cotton burns away, leaving a memory of the knitting. It is light, showing all the handknit details. It is strong because porcelain, contrary to its appearance, is quite dense. What remains is the amazement. It has a spiraled coil bottom with a signature patch. See all the photos to enjoy this one of a kind piece. We sometimes have several in this style, each one naturally different. Yours will be similar in size and stitch patterning, but will have its own unique charms.
