Based on the traditional “Ugly Jugs” of the American South, these handbuilt jugs range from silly to grotesque to character portraits of actual people. All are fully functional and are 8″ to 14″ tall. The classic Ugly Jugs have been wood fired, the rest are fired to stoneware temperatures in an electric kiln. The face jug form is deeply satisfying work I pursued from 2006 to 2011 and may return to again.
